Marijuana Party: Legal Requirement for Party to stay Registered
We need at least 250 Membership Declarations signed during 2010 that the Party Leader can accumulate and submit to Elections Canada to comply with the Canada Elections Act membership laws. The about 700 citizens who signed Marijuana Party Membership Declarations from 2004 to 2009 will be mailed a request with a stamped return address envelope to mail back one of the official Elections Canada Membership Declarations.
The first deadline for the Marijuana Party Leader to submit 250 is June 30, 2010.
The Chief Electoral Officer can permit two three month extensions for a party to complete filing 250 declarations. Thus, the DEAD deadline for the Marijuana Party to stay registered is to have submitted 250 by the end of 2010. A registered political party that fails to submit 250 valid membership declarations every three years will be deregistered.
