Liberal Party: Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff on the death of Sgt. John Faught in Afghanistan

Liberal_Party Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement tonight regarding the death of a Canadian soldier in Afghanistan:

Tonight, I join with all Canadians as we mourn the loss of Sgt. John Faught in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Faught, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, served with the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton. He was killed in the line of duty by an improvised explosive device while on a joint foot patrol in town of Nakhoney, located in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province.

Sgt. Faught was a dedicated section commander in the proudest tradition of our Armed Forces. His tragic loss reminds us of the sacrifices our Canadian soldiers are making every day to help to build a safe and secure country for the people of Afghanistan. We are forever grateful for his selflessness and courage as he took on the challenge of defending peace as part of Canada's mission in Afghanistan.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I offer my condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. John Faught, and the entire Canadian Forces family at this difficult time.
